Just in the past two weeksI have painted four rooms, laid two hundred square feet of ceramic tile, celebrated Christmas three times, spent over $600 at Lowe's, not written a song, helped a friend move, led worship five times, hung out with Jeph, built a crib and a rocking chair, built a computer desk, painted a shelf, gone Christmas caroling, and oh heck, I can't even remember all the rest of the stuff but it's been crazy!Sorry for the time away and also sorry for the lack of substantial content around here lately. It's liable to be that way for oh... the next month or so. The baby is due the 14th of January but it's looking like there's a good chance it will be early. I'll be back to normal after that... I promise the blog won't become my daily journal of cute baby pictures, poop stories, and sappy songs about how my baby is the best baby in the history of all babies... really. I promise. Blog Roll update...Removed a couple I don't read much. Added Blue. Songs 13, 14, 15, and 15a are now online! This will be the last songs probably of 2003 so here are four of them all at once! So far, I have 15 songs in only 9 weeks so I'm a good bit ahead of schedule which is a good thing... I want to allow room for a break when the baby comes! I appreciate all of the positive comments I've received about the songs... thank you all for listening. It's been fun to get feedback, both positive and negative. I'm really hoping Jeph will continue his insightful letter grade reviews but he's now fallen a bit behind... maybe you should surf over to Jeph's website and encourage him to get over here with his letter grades. I have the sinking suspicion that Jeph is operating under the "if you can't say anything nice" rule but hey... I need to have some bad grades! They can't all be good... if I do 52 tunes, there are sure to be at least 10 that suck big time and maybe more than that! News and a RantSay a prayer for me as this Sunday is our big kids program "A Charlie Brown Christmas". I'm psyched about it... everyone has worked really hard and it's going to be really great (I hope). Also, I should have four new songs posted within the next few days... songs #13, #14, #15, and #15a. I'm posting two Christmas songs but are going to count them both as #15 since neither of them are original. Finally, a rant. Is anyone else getting really annoyed by grocery stores making you join their "super savers club" or "advantage card" deal? I mean, I don't always shop at the same store so now if I want to get groceries at a decent price, I have to carry around a stupid card for every store in town. Aside from that, how dumb do they think we are? All they did was jack up their prices for people without cards and give people with cards the same prices they always got. It's all just a scam to collect your personal information and shopping habits and we all buy in like sheep... it really ticks me off. And now other stores are doing it too... just in the last 24 hours I've been asked if I had my "card" at Dick's sporting goods and CVS pharmacy. I swear... just implant my chip now so you can just scan me when I walk in the door... it would be less hassle in the long run. we now return to our regularly scheduled programming. The Google Bomb...It seems that the new fun thing to do is drop "google bombs"... this is where enough people link a certain term with a certain website so that google thinks that site is the number one response. A few days ago I posted on two google bombs (go type in "weapons of mass destruction" or "french military victories") The newest making news is to go to google.com and type in "miserable failure". Then hit "I'm feeling lucky". See where it takes you. This is an interesting new prank that will only become more common... hmmm... maybe I could make it to where anything you put into google will send you to emergingminister.com. And then... I WILL RULE THE WORLD!football frustrationI know most of you could care less but I have to vent.... Tennessee, who is ranked #6 in the country, is getting absolutely screwed by being sent to the Peach bowl... a lower tier bowl any way you stack it. The Outback Bowl taking an 8-4 Florida team over a 10-2 Tennessee team is an absolute joke and word is, next year when the Outback is up for a new contract, the SEC is going to tell them thanks but no thanks... I am highly annoyed. Anyway, go Sooners and go USC... let's have a split national championship so everyone will see that this ridiculous BCS garbage is a crock and has to go.Song #12 is now OnlineGo to my 52 songs in 52 weeks page to listen to song #12 "The Darkness Will Not Overcome You".Weird fact of the dayRead this on Wendy Cooper's blog... Margarine is only one molecule away from being plastic. Nasty. This is bizarre...This is one of the most disturbing news stories I have read in a long time... German compares cannibalism to taking communion... The Mega-Christmas-Pageant-2003 There's something every Christmas that bugs me and maybe I'm a Scrooge but... .What is up with all of these churches doing these gigantic Christmas pageants? I mean, just here in little Knoxville, TN, there are at least 6 churches I can think of that do HUGE Christmas programs. By HUGE, I mean that they start working on them in February, the budget is in the tens of thousands of dollars, you have to have a ticket (some sell tickets, some don't) to get a seat, and several of them are televised. They all use full orchestras, elaborate props, sets, costumes, and lights, and many of them rival broadway plays in the professional way they are produced... these are big deals. This year I've been seeing Billboards for "The Cradle that Rocked the World... call 555-1212 for tickets" and that kind of thing. So, why does this give me a bad feeling? Does it give you a bad feeling? Part of me thinks it's fine... families like to go see Christmas pageants together... but at the same time, they're spending huge amounts of money that might be better spent elsewhere. Also, I think part of the problem for me is that churches compete with each other on these things... when you add up the amount spent on Christmas pageants just in my town, it's got to be at least $100k probably more. Probably more like $250k. I wonder what else could be done with that? How about you? Do you enjoy these big productions? I think it's fine if you do... Or, are there other things you would rather do to prepare for the coming of the King? Thoughts?
